Outage Disrupts PlayStation Network

Sony announced that all PlayStation Plus members will receive an additional five days of service following a global outage that affected the PlayStation Network (PSN) for about 18 hours on Friday and Saturday.

Full Recovery and Apology

The company confirmed on Sunday that network services had fully recovered, apologizing for the inconvenience and thanking users for their patience. Sony did not specify the cause of the outage.

Impact on Users

The outage, which began late Friday, left players unable to sign in, play online games, or access the online store. By Saturday evening, PSN services were restored. At its peak, the outage affected nearly 8,000 users in the U.S. and over 7,300 in the UK, according to Downdetector.

Community Reaction

Many players expressed frustration over the disruption but appreciated Sony’s effort to compensate users. Some noted that while Saturday was ruined, Sony restored service in time for Sunday gaming.

Past PlayStation Network Outages

Sony has experienced more severe outages in the past. In 2014, a cyberattack took the PlayStation Network offline for several days. In 2011, a major security breach compromised the personal data of 77 million users, leading to a month-long shutdown and regulatory scrutiny.
