Attack on Police Camp in Garissa

At least six police personnel were killed, and four others injured in an attack by suspected al Shabaab militants on a National Police Reservist camp in Biyamadhow, Fafi Sub-county, Garissa County, Kenya. The attack occurred early Sunday morning.

Details of the Assault

The assailants, armed with assorted weapons, overran the camp around 5:30 AM. Security officials confirmed that the injured officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Security Response

A multi-agency security team, led by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), has launched an investigation and is actively pursuing the attackers.

U.S. Travel Advisory

This incident follows a recent travel advisory issued by the U.S. Embassy on March 18, cautioning against travel to areas near the Kenya-Somalia border, including Garissa County, due to terrorism threats.

Al Shabaab’s Continued Attacks

Al Shabaab, an al Qaeda-affiliated militant group based in Somalia, has a history of carrying out cross-border attacks targeting both military and civilian entities in the region.
