Norway to Seek Increased Financial Support for Ukraine
Norwegian Government Plans to Request More Aid
Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere announced that the government will soon request parliament to increase financial backing for Ukraine. Speaking to public broadcaster NRK on Saturday, Stoere confirmed the upcoming proposal.
Existing Financial Commitments
In late 2023, Norway’s parliament approved a financial package of 35 billion Norwegian crowns ($3.12 billion) for military and civilian support to Ukraine in 2025. Additionally, a long-term commitment of 155 billion crowns has been allocated for the years 2023 to 2030.
Upcoming Diplomatic Engagements
Stoere is scheduled to meet with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in London on Sunday. The discussions are expected to focus on ongoing support for Ukraine.
Tensions in U.S.-Ukraine Relations
On Friday, Zelenskiy’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump resulted in a contentious exchange at the White House. The discussion, held before the global media, highlighted disagreements over the war with Russia.
