Mexico to Extradite More Alleged Drug Traffickers to the US
Additional Lists Being Prepared
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that more names of alleged drug traffickers are being prepared for extradition to the United States. This follows a major extradition in February, when nearly 30 individuals with alleged ties to violent drug cartels were handed over to U.S. authorities.
U.S. Tariffs on Mexico and Other Countries
U.S. President Donald Trump has declared April 2 as “Liberation Day,” when new tariffs will be imposed on several countries, including a 25% levy on certain goods from Mexico and Canada under the USMCA trade agreement. These tariffs are part of Trump’s strategy to address drug trafficking and border security concerns with Mexico.
Mexico’s Response to U.S. Tariffs
President Sheinbaum stated that while Mexico does not believe in a retaliatory “eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth” approach, the country will take appropriate action in response to the tariffs.
