Tehran Signals Willingness for Talks

A senior Iranian official stated that Iran is open to giving the United States another chance to resolve disputes, despite renewed pressure from Washington. This comes after President Donald Trump reinstated his “maximum pressure” campaign against the country.

Nuclear Concerns Can Be Addressed

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi emphasized that concerns about Iran developing nuclear weapons are not a complex issue and could be resolved, as Tehran has consistently opposed weapons of mass destruction.

Concerns Over Israel’s Role

The senior official stressed that Iran remains cautious about possible Israeli sabotage and called on the United States to control Israel if it genuinely seeks a deal with Tehran.

Trump Seeks Verified Agreement

President Trump stated his preference for a verified nuclear peace agreement with Iran in a post on his Truth Social account.

Impact of Maximum Pressure Campaign

The “maximum pressure” campaign aims to cut Iran’s oil exports to zero, preventing it from acquiring a nuclear weapon. Tehran, however, maintains that its nuclear program is entirely peaceful and has no military intentions.

Iran’s Limited Options for Regional Influence

Following the Hamas-Israel conflict in Gaza since October 2023 and growing economic discontent within Iran, analysts believe Tehran has few alternatives other than pursuing a deal with the U.S.

The fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December further weakened Iran’s “Axis of Resistance,” a network of allied states and militant groups that counter Israel and the U.S.

Past U.S. Withdrawal from the Nuclear Deal

In 2018, then-President Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement and reimposed sanctions that severely impacted Iran’s economy. In response, Tehran breached the deal’s nuclear restrictions.

Iran Opposes Palestinian Displacement

The Iranian official clarified that Iran does not support any forced displacement of Palestinians. However, they emphasized that this issue should remain separate from nuclear negotiations.

“Iran does not agree with any displacement of Palestinians and has communicated this through various channels. However, this issue and the path of Iran’s nuclear agreement are two separate matters and should be pursued separately,” the official said.
