Moldovan Authorities Arrest Three Nationals Linked to Wagner Group

Raids Conducted Across Moldova

Moldovan authorities arrested three nationals suspected of links to the Russian Wagner Group, a paramilitary organization known for its involvement in the war in Ukraine. The arrests took place as part of a large-scale operation on February 12 and 13.

Over 50 Locations Searched

Authorities raided more than 50 locations associated with suspected Wagner Group members. The operation targeted individuals believed to have participated as mercenaries in Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Investigation Uncovers Key Evidence

The investigation has so far identified 85 individuals linked to the conflict. Materials seized during the raids provide insights into Wagner Group recruitment, conditions of service, and the suspects’ involvement in military actions in Ukraine.

Europol’s Role in the Investigation

Europol supported the operation by facilitating intelligence exchanges between authorities. A virtual command center was established to streamline communication between Moldovan, Ukrainian, and other European agencies.

Poland Jails Two Russian Wagner Members

On the same day, Polish authorities announced the sentencing of two Russian citizens to 5.5 years in prison for their involvement with the Wagner Group and for espionage activities on behalf of Moscow. The individuals had been arrested in August 2023.

Increased Crackdown on Russian Paramilitary Activities

The arrests and investigations reflect a broader European effort to dismantle Wagner Group operations and curb Russian paramilitary influence in the region.
