4 Killed and 3 Injured in Russian airstrike on Kyiv

Pre-Dawn Attack on Kyiv

Russian forces launched a combined drone and missile attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, early Saturday morning, resulting in 4 killed and 3 injuries, according to city military administration chief Timur Tkachenko. The assault caused explosions that lit up the pre-dawn sky as air defenses attempted to repel the attack.

Damage to Infrastructure

The attack damaged a shopping mall, a business center, a metro station, and a water pipeline. Rescue workers were seen wading through a flooded street and sifting through debris. A charred van and a facade marked by twisted metal and broken windows at the metro station highlighted the destruction.

Missile Interception and Damage

Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat confirmed that two missiles aimed at Kyiv were intercepted, but one was shot down at low altitude, causing significant damage. Ukrainian military forces reported destroying 24 of 39 drones and two of four missiles launched during the assault.

Additional Strikes Across Ukraine

In the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, Russian strikes wounded ten people and damaged industrial offices. On Friday, a separate missile attack on Kryvyi Rih killed four individuals and partially destroyed an educational facility.

Official Reactions

Ukrainian officials described the attacks as barbaric, with parliamentary ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets highlighting the ruthlessness of the strikes. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for increased pressure on those supporting Russia’s actions.

Continued Threats to Civilian Areas

Since the invasion began nearly three years ago, Russian forces have frequently targeted cities and critical infrastructure far from the front lines, inflicting widespread damage and disrupting civilian life across Ukraine.
